KISII, Kenya, Oct 28- A family in Kisii County has petitioned the government over the cold murder of their child at Homabay Women’s Prison.

Parents of Seline Kemunto aged three months from Bomwanda location, want release of her body for burial and justice done.

According to the Officer In Charge of the Homabay Women’s Rehabilitation facility the case is being handled by the detectives in Homabay.

The incident happened after a mentally unstable prisoner allegedly grabbed the child whose mother was also serving a jail term in the same instillation, “and smashed her onto to the floor, leading to her death.”

The deceased’s mother was recuperating from a caesarian operation she had undergone during delivery when the tragedy occurred.

Prison authorities summoned the deceased’s family and informed them on the incident requiring them to remove the body for burial at home.

But Bonface Ogero, the father declined to do so and instead demanded for a post mortem to be conducted on the body pending litigation.

He further wanted the prison to foot the postmortem, mortuary and transportation expenses to Kisii for burial citing negligence on their part.

Efforts to have his demands met have since hit a snag as the prison administration remained silent on the matter.

The deceased’s grandfather, who engaged a lawyer to pursue the matter, has complained of frustration from the prison authorities.
