“While walking we encountered a police officer who shouted at us from a distance asking why we were not wearing our face mask. Slightly confused we started running away,” said Wamalwa.
As they started running near Hurlingham East Police Post Wamalwa ran to one direction as Ambrose (deceased) ran the opposite direction.
It is here where he ran on to the road and met his untimely demise after being hit by a matatu.
“I can not believe my bother is dead. This is very difficult for me to accept,” a teary brother said.
His death sparked protests as irate residents took to the streets barricading roads, setting tires a blaze and paralyzing traffic flow along Kangundo road for several hours.
Police were forced to use teargas to disperse the rowdy crowd that chanted,”You are killing our people, we want justice.”
The almost cat and mouse game ensured for hours as reinforcements from the riot police were called in to restore order and normal flow of traffic in and out of the area.
The chaos spilled over to several estates forcing many to remain behind closed doors as several businesses were also closed for fear of destruction of property.
