ISIOLO, Kenya, Oct 29 – A vehicle ferrying miraa from Maua in Meru county was Thursday morning swept by flash floods along the Kinna-Garbatulla road.
According to police reports, the vehicle which was Garissa bound swerved on the road after the driver, 52 year old Hussein Mahat attempted to escape the imminent danger to no avail before plunging into the flood chanel.
His turn boy however upon plunging in the waters on instinct, managed to escape the vicious waters, swimming to safety.
The driver however was not so lucky and due to the intensity of water, he was swept away about one kilometer from the Garbatulla trading center.
Police who quickly arrived at the scene told Shahidi News that only his shoe and an identity card were found near a dumping site after being swept by the floods.
Search and rescue operations were on going with hopes of finding the driver alive dwindling.
