LAIKIPIA, Kenya, October 30 – A sombre mood engulfed residents of Rurii-B, Gathanje area in Nyahururu, during the burial of a police officer suspected to have been poisoned and later strangled to death by unknown assailants was Friday Morning laid to rest.

Officer David Kirugumi Murai ,43, was on October 23 found dead in his Garden Estate bedroom with a rope on his neck.

His wife, who is being considered as a prime suspect, notified the police about the incident.

Family members, friends and colleagues of the deceased gathered at his farm to give him a befitted sendoff accompanied by 21-gun salute as it is the tradition for fallen officers.

Samuel Murai, the deceased’s brother called on the investigating agencies to complete the probe into the killing and deliver justice.

“He has left behind two children we will now have to take care of them,” a police representative said.

The deceased’s boss, Traffic commandant Titus Etiang’ meanwhile described him as a hard-working officer “who respected his colleagues and served his country diligently.”

Though initial reports had indicated that he might have committed suicide, postmortem results revealed that the deceased might have been assaulted as indicated by injuries on his chest and strangulation marks on his neck.

The autopsy was done by pathologist Dr. Boniface Muriungu at the Nyahururu County Referral Hospital.

It is also believed that he might have been poisoned and died at a different location before his body was subsequently moved to Garden Estate.

His wife is currently being held at the Nyahururu police station as detectives continue with investigations.
