NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 31- The State has taken over the burial arrangements for the late former chairman of committee of experts on constitutional reforms Nzamba Kitonga.

This follows a directive issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Top government representatives Saturday contacted the family with a view to forming a joint funeral committee.

The Attorney General Kihara Kariuki, Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, and the Secretary for National Administration, Arthur Osiya, Saturday held the first meeting with the late lawyer’s family, represented by his first son Ivia Kitonga, Law Society of Kenya CEO Mercy Wambua, and Senior Counsels Dr. Fred Ojiambo and Philip Murgor.

The late Kitonga is widely recognized as one of the most resourceful members of the bar, and he will be remembered most for his immense contribution to the drafting of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

To fulfill the family’s wish that the memory of the later lawyer is neither sullied nor used for political mileage, the team has begun working towards according him a befitting send-off.

Top government officials have been trooping to his Nairobi home to mourn his death. Kitonga collapsed and died last Saturday in Machakos.

Burial day will be on November 7 at his Kitui home.
