NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 1 – Police are investigating an incident involving one of their own attached at the Hurlingham East Police post in Kamulu, after he allegedly broke into his ex-lover’s home and destroyed property of unknown value.
The officer, as established by Shahidi News, destroyed furniture and a car, and further threatened to kill her.
According to the victim, Jane Wanjiru, the incident happened at 6.30 am on Sunday.
It is her friend who alerted her through a phone call that the police officer, dressed in civilian clothing had drove to her house, armed with his firearm and a machete and was breaking into his home.
“A friend called and told me that he was in my house and had locked the gate with a new padlock. He then proceeded to break into my house through a window and started breaking things,” Wanjiru narrated her ordeal.
Shahidi News managed to visit the residence at Kamulu and found that Wanjiru’s vehicle had been damaged with broken window all over the compound and inside the car.
The security lights around the homestead were also damaged including windows of the house.
“After entering my house, he then destroyed my TV, furniture and anything else on his path. All my belongings were destroyed. I now have nothing and I fear for my life,” she said.
Neighbours who witnessed the incident positively identified the officer as they secretly hid Wanjiru in one of the houses in an attempt to save her life.
“I cannot believe this happened to me. I am now more than ever constantly fearing for my life. I don’t even think I can sleep in my house anymore,” a visibly nervous Wanjiru said.
The incident has been reported at the Kamulu and Kayole police station.
Wanjiru told Shahidi News that she was romantically involved with the officer for years before splitting three months ago.
She further said that the officer in question had bought a car through a loan and allegedly wanted her to settle it for him but she had declined.
According to Wanjiru, that is what triggered the fury.
“I have worked hard for what I own. The government must protect women. If things continue the way they are I will even leave this country,” she said.
Kayole OCPD Paul Wambugu said that the matter is under investigations.
