Kakamega, Kenya, Nov 2 – Police in Kakamega have launched a manhunt for a man accused of killing his father in-law after allegedly failing to settle a marital dispute between him and his wife.
The suspect is accused of pushing James Nyongesa, 80, from a moving boda boda, as he was commuting back home.
The man had travelled alongside his son Edwin Nyongesa to Kimilili, hoping to rescue his daughter’s marriage from collapsing, after months of family wrangles.
“We tried all we could to settle the matter however Issac (the suspect) did not want any part of it. So we decided to pick my sister from her home and take her to Kakamega with her children. On our way however, Isaac started chasing the bodaboda that was carrying my father and then he pushed it and he fell to the ground,” Edwin said.
The accused who is currently on the run quickly fled the scene as Nyongesa was rushed to hospital at around 6pm.
Attempts to resuscitate him by doctors were futile.
“Once he was brought to the emergency room we noticed he was bleeding from his nose and had injuries on head, legs and arm. We tried everything we would but he unfortunately didn’t make it,” Dr. Moses Makokha, Shibuli Health told Shahidi News.
A postmortem examination is expected to be conducted on Monday.
“I can not believe my father is dead. I don’t know what to say or do,” a teary Edwin said.
