NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 4- There are strange things that happen in life that leaves one with more questions than answers, and then there are thieves who rob you of everything while you sleep, and you don’t hear a thing.

This is what happened to 50 families living in a three storey building in Mihang’o, Utawala, when each of their homes was broken into last night, valuables stolen and none of them heard a thing.

Beyond the black and green gate of this apartment building at Mihango estate in Utawala, residents gathered in small groups when Shahidi News paid a visit, perhaps to give each other comfort over a shocking revelation over what transpired.

“We woke up at around 5a.m to find our houses broken into, but we suspect that the robbers may have come to our block at 2.30 a.m. There some of us who have been robbed off money. We found a handbag on the ground floor. What scares us is that we have locked the doors from inside, but we found them wide open,” Jackline Mueni told Shahidi News.

As they try to figure out how the individuals who stole from the residents in the building gained access into their homes, they have also noted that the thieves took away even the clothing that had been hanging on the lines to dry.

But for some like Wambui Maina, the loss of her TV set, is too much to bare.

“If the curfew is at 11p.m, then how do we find robbers at 3 a.m. This is becoming habitual, weeks ago, a car was stolen right outside, today they have left with electronics, what will they take tomorrow,” she said.

The residents suspect the robbers drugged them.

The victims complained that there has been a spike in robbery incidents in the last few weeks.

“I get the feeling that this is just the beginning. they are testing a drug to see if it works. Maybe tomorrow they may come, use it on us and actually asia us to give them money even that which is our accounts ,” another resident said.

They have reported the matter to the Karangita police post while holding on to hope that their property will be recovered.
