    Woman pours hot water on husband’s face over birth control dispute

    MIGORI, Kenya, Nov 4 – George Odhiambo, a bodaboda rider in Migori is nursing serious burn wounds after he was burnt by his wife with hot water, in the latest case of domestic violence in the country.

    The incident which occurred early Wednesday morning saw the accused, only identified as Mama Safi following an argument pour hot water on his husband’s face leaving him permanently scarred.

    According to the injured, he was involved in a heated argument with his wife of seven years allegedly on whether or not they would have children.

    “We have been together for seven years, for some reason however we started quarreling after a discussion on having children. I however later found out that she was taking family planning pills and did not tell me,” said Odhiambo.

    Despite their disagreement, Odhiambo said that he did not expect his wife to do the unthinkable.

    Irate residents shortly after hearing the screams of a man in agonizing pain arrived at his homestead baying for his wife’s blood.

    Police however arrived at the scene dispersing the angry crowd.

    “She started saying that she was no longer my wife despite us being for seven years. I am also told that she deliberately did not want children because she was seeng another man,” he said.

    Police and residents had earlier on prevented the accused from escaping the home with furniture and other electronics before she was whisked away to the Migori police Station.

    “This is very sad to see couples engaging in such violence,” a neighbour said.

    Cases of domestic violence are said to be on the rise in Migori county.

    Couples are encouraged to seek professional counseling as a means of addressing disputes.

    Odhimabo is receiving treatment at the Migori Level Five Hospital.
