MURANG’A, Kenya, Nov 6- Police on Thursday night arrested dozens of COVID-19 protocol breakers across the country, following a directive by the Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai.
Those arrested according to a spot check by Shahidi News were found in bars past the curfew hours.
Bars and restaurants according to government guidelines are supposed to close their businesses at 9pm, an hour before the curfew kicks in.
In Murang’a, it was a case of same script different cast, as police conducted several operations targeting those defying curfew directives.
They are set to be arraigned in court Friday and risk paying a maximum fine of Sh20,000.
The renewed operations are expected to continue, according to the Inspector General of Police in line with a proclamation by President Uhuru Kenyatta earlier this week.
Uhuru directed the Ministry of Interior to establish a special enforcement team consisting of the National Police Service, administrators and the County Government’s security teams.
The President further asked public officers to deny services to any individual not wearing a face mask.
