NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 16- Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Monday arrested a foreigner at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for carrying 3,050 grams of heroin as he headed for Italy.
Police estimated the drugs to be valued at Sh9 million.
Police said Ordijhe Mike who was to travel to Italy was found concealing the substance in his suitcase.
He has been in Nairobi for unknown time which means he got the narcotics locally.
The suspect was expected in court on Monday later in the day.
The drugs were taken to a laboratory for further analysis.
The arrest indicates there is a supply of the drugs in Nairobi with the market being in Europe.
The European Union had last year indicated large quantities of narcotics consumed in their countries originate Kenya and specifically Mombasa port.
Officials called on Kenya to enhance security measures to tame the trend.
It is not clear how such drugs pass through various security checks to arrive Nairobi for onward trafficking to the intended destination.
The traffickers have been avoiding airports and resorted to roads for the business.
