NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 19- President Uhuru Kenyatta is Thursday expected to tour the new Border Police Unit and Border Police Training campus in Kitui County.
The President is expected to among others commission a level four hospital that has been constructed by the unit personnel to attend to the locals and officers injured on duty.
The hospital has 160 bed capacity, an airstrip, a State Lodge and other modern facilities that have been constructed within a year.
During his tour, the president is expected to commission 40 four wheel drive vehicles that were donated by the US to help the personnel in their operations.
The personnel from BPU are mainly deployed at the main Kenya-Somalia border which is under siege from Al-Shabaab terrorists.
They have so far established 22 boarder posts and equipped them with modern state of the art armories donated by the UK government to help in their operations.
Once the personnel are trained at the college, they are deployed to the frontline to combat the terror threats at the northern frontier.
Their aim is to create a buffer zone between Kenya and Somalia to deter the terrorists from crossing freely into the country where they have been staging attacks killing dozens of security personnel and civilians.
Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai said the developments are good for the safety of the country.
