    Police gift their colleague with a house after rare disease confines her to wheelchair

    KAKAMEGA, Kenya, Nov 21- A group of police officers Saturday gifted their female colleague with a three bedroom house in Malava sub county, Kakamega County, after she fell sick and became paralyzed since 2010.

    The group dubbed detail 79 is a section of officers who graduated from Kiganjo Police Training College on November 16, 2001.

    A section of those officers have so far grown from Recruit Constable to current three Commissioners of Police.

    And after their graduation, Constable Evelyn Mandila was posted to various stations but later fell sick and was paralyzed from a rare health condition since 2010.

    She has since then been confined to a wheelchair.

    “This moved us and we decided to come together to help her manage life. We formed a WhatsApp group with an aim of fundraising for this mission and others,” said one of the officers in the group.

    Through the initiative of Detail 79′ Investment Group, they contributed money through mobilisation, which were used construction of the structure which was unveiled on Saturday at an emotional event.

    Apart from building and furnishing the house, the officers bought house utensils, donated food and non food items, and cash to pay school fees for her children.

    It was joy in the village as the family witnessed official hand over of the house.

    PC Mandila could not hide her joy as she shed tears thanking the officers for their gesture.

    Officials of the group said this is one of the many Charitable projects the team has accomplished in three years since the inception of their investiment group.

    In a similar move, on Friday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i and Deputy Inspector General of Administration Police Noor Gabow honored the memory of John Njenga, a gallant police officer who lost his life in Garissa Yumbis attack in July 2020 with a house.

    They revealed Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai and the CS contributed to the completion of the late Njenga’s and wife’s home in Kibichiku Kiambu County.

    It was revealed Njenga’s actions saved the lives of 35 other officers who were in the camp then when Al-Shabaab militants struck.

    “We are happy his family can now smile. We will do our best to help such needy cases,” said Matiang’i.

    Dozens of police officers are paralyzed due to various incidents while in line of duty.

    The government has promised to cater to the needs of officers.
