NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 27- Three suspected thugs were Thursday night shot dead by police officers at Kwa Mbao in Kariobangi, Nairobi County in the fight against crime and weapons found on them.

Police attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) trailed and managed to kill the three while one escaped on foot.

They are all young men aged between 19 and 23.

Police said the suspects were recently caught on CCTV robbing a shop in the area.

In the footage, one of the men was armed with a pistol and would be seen hurling unsuspecting customers in the shop into a corner after robbing them of their valuables and cash.

According to police, the suspects were also linked to other violent robberies reported in the area over the past two months, some of which were fatal.

Police claimed that the armed suspects had been robbing locals and escaping using a boda boda prompting a chase that left the three dead and two pistols, several rounds of ammunition, spent cartridges and an unregistered motorcycle found on them.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary.

Crime incidents have been on the increase in the area with young men being blamed for the same.

Teams of police officers have been going to boardrooms to discuss the incidents with an aim of solving them.

A number of the suspects have since been arrested while others have ended up in mortuaries.
