NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 6- Two minors, who had been kidnapped Saturday from a house in Buruburu, Nairobi were rescued before they could be taken to Uganda and one suspect arrested.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said coordinated efforts between Buruburu’s detectives and their counterparts at Busia border led to the interception of the suspect with the minors aged eight and four years in a bus which was headed to Kampala, Uganda.

Police flagged down a bus the minors and their caretaker were in before they safely removed them for questioning.

The woman wept as police asked her to step out with the children.

The children had been left under the care of their house girl identified as Scovia Namataka before they were kidnapped.

The parents of the minors reported the matter before a search started leading to the interception.

Police say they are treating the woman as a suspect in the offence.

The parents of the children had traveled to Meru to attend a funeral event of a kin when the house girl left with the minors.

She told the minors they were going to visit a friend.

It is not clear how long the woman has been with the family.

The woman with the children were driven to Nairobi where she was detained in custody and the children reunited with the parents.

Police have warned parents to be careful and always countercheck on details of house girls they employ especially those who are foreigners.

There has been a slight increase of incidents where house girls vanish with children left under their care and later demand a ransom.

Kenya is also on high alert following an exposé that revealed how rampant cases of children stealing right from the hospitals and streets are prevalent in Nairobi.

According to preliminary investigations, children are sold for as little as Sh50,000.
