NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 9- A police officer is among suspects who were Tuesday arrested after three men robbed an accountant of Sh5 million he was taking to a bank in Westland’s area, Nairobi.

Almost all the stolen cash has since been recovered after a police operation that covered Kawangware, Mathare and Kangemi areas in the city.

The police officer based at Ruiru police station was arrested alongside three workers at the Mitsumi Business Park following a robbery with violence incident where they robbed the accountant of the money in US dollars.

This was after his pistol was found to have been used in the robbery.

He was arrested from his Ndori village in Bondo, Siaya County almost 500 kilometers away from the scene of crime. He told police he was on leave at the time of the robbery but did not explain how his gun was used in the attack.

The group was armed when they confronted the accountant on Monday evening and grabbed the money that was in a rack sack.

They at gunpoint confronted the accountant as she got off the lift of the building and grabbed the money before running away.

A CCTV camera at the building captured the events showing two of the men confront the woman and pushing her back to the lift at gun point and later grabbed the money before escaping.

There were reports the money was much more than the reported, but police are investigating.

On Tuesday, detectives from Parklands police station traced the suspects and recovered almost all the stolen money.

For instance, from one of the suspect’s houses in Huruma estate, Albert Ochola, detectives based at Parklands recovered 10,000 US dollars.

According to police, Ochola is a plumber in Mitsumi Business Park.

Another 12,300 US dollars was recovered from Walter Kiverenge’s house at Kangemi.

Kiverenge who is the staff supervisor at the building had concealed the cash inside a water dispenser.

Another suspect Bernard Ogutu Oketch is also in custody after police found from residence in Mathare area one 10,000 US dollars, a brand new TV and two mobile phones.

Police said they recovered 11,000 US dollars from one Wycliffe Marani’s house in Kawangware.

Police said they are looking for two more suspects and missing cash.

They are expected in court on Thursday to face various charges including misuse of firearm and robbery with violence.
