The deceased was accompanied by her other siblings to collect firewood when the incident occurred.

According to the deceased family, a tree branch fell on her, hitting her on the back of her head.

    She bled to death.

“I had gone out searching for casual work to feed my family when one of my children at around 2pm came searching for me and told me that my daughter was dead,” said the deceased father.

Upon quickly rushing to the forest, he discovered her body.

“I cannot blame anyone for her death, but we are deeply saddened,” he said. “We pray for God’s protection.”

A teary mother to the deceased, Jackeline Kadogo told Shahidi News that the death was a huge blow to the family.

Shinyalu Sub-County Commander Robert Makau told Shahidi news that the body of the deceased has since been taken to the Kakamega referral hospital mortuary for postmortem.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Kakamega Forest Association, Wycliffe Mwanje has urged parents not to allow their children to enter the forest due to the dangers it poses including that of wild animals and marauding gangs that have made it their base of operation.

“It is very sad that it happened however during this period of the corona pandemic, parents must not let their children go to the forest instead the parents themselves once they have acquired the license to collect firewood,” Mwanje said.
