KAKAMEGA, Kenya, Dec, 20 – Police in Ikolomani, Kakamega county have launched a manhunt for three people accused of hacking to death a 39 year old man and injuring his wife using a machete on Saturday over land dispute.

The incident which has shocked residents in the normally quite Emulebo village is said to have occurred following a prolonged land dispute between relatives.

Police have identified the man as Vincent Ngala.

The deceased, was according to family and residents, attacked by unknown assailants.

A fight broke out between him and the attackers but he was overpowered and hacked several times, police said.

“They came with machetes and started beating him up, afterwards they hacked him seven times on his head and proceeded to cut his back, stomach and legs,” a family member told Shahidi News.

His wife was then also beat up and sustained a injuries on her head and mouth.

The killers, following screams by residents, fled the scene as the deceased wife was rushed to the Kakamega Referral Hospital.

“When we arrived at his home blood was all over the house. The body was however lying in the sugarcane farm. We tried to check whether he was alive but unfortunately he had succumbed,”  a resident said.

According to police reports, the deceased had in the past recorded statements accusing his relatives of intimidation and constant harassment over the ownership of a parcel of land.

Police are meanwhile pursing leads that the deceased father has allegedly been eyeing the piece of land and had claimed to forcefully sell it.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Kakamega Referral hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
