MOMBASA, Kenya, Dec 22 – A middle aged woman accused of spiking his lovers drink before stealing Sh1.7 million as well as his mobile phone worth Sh30, 000 has denied the charges.

The accused, Beatrice Mueni, is alleged to have administered a harmful drug to the victims’ drink In Bamburi area of Nyali constituency on September 8.

The victim, Richard Wanyonyi was the accused’ lover.

Appearing before Shanzu Law Courts resident magistrate David Odhiambo, Mueni pleaded not guilty and sought to be granted bail.

The prosecution however presented to the court that on the night of the incident, the accused alongside two other women still at large approached the victim when the incident occurred.

Minutes after the encounter, the victim is said to have started experiencing breathing difficulties before becoming unconscious.

Police reports presented in court revealed that the accused stole Wanyonyi’s mobile phone and managed to transfer Sh1.7 million from his bank account.

The suspect was arrested by police on November 28 after being on the run for weeks.

Police say she was arrested at yet another night club and is suspected to be part of a syndicate targeting revelers before stealing from them in Mombasa and Kilifi.

Mueni was released on a one million cash bail.

The case is set to be heard on January 25, 2021.
