KIAMBU, Kenya, Dec, 23 – The mother of a one year and 7 months old baby who allegedly chopped off her son’s private parts has been arrested by police in Limuru, Kiambu county.

The arrest comes nearly two months after.she fled her home.

The suspect who is a mother of two is said to have committed the unthinkable act and attempted to hide what she did from her husband after initially claiming that their son was sick.

The suspect’s husband Shelton Mwamburi told Shahidi News that after several weeks on the run, his wife unexpectedly returned home on Tuesday evening and attempted to break into their house.

“I had just gotten out of the hospital visiting my baby and decided to go home and get him some fresh clothes, when I got home, I saw my wife attempting to gain access inside the house. When I saw her, I carefully approached her and attempted to calmly speak to her as I tried to call the police,” he said.

Mwamburi eventually managed to convince his wife to stay for the night despite her constant attempts to grab her clothes and flee.

But why did she commit such a heinous crime on her own baby?

Limuru Sub county Police Commander Mwaniki Ireri told Shahidi News that upon receiving a message that the suspect had returned home, police from Tigoni police station quickly drove to the house and arrested her.

“We have been working with the husband for quite some time trying to trace his wife, after what she did. She must be ready to face the law.” Limuru police boss said.

For the last several weeks police had received intelligence that the lady had fled to her rural home in Makueni and despite police traveling to her home, the suspect got wind that police were tracking her and fled.

According to preliminary reports, on the night of the tragic incident, the suspect used a razor blade to chop off her son’s private parts.

Police are yet to establish what led her to commit such a heinous crime.

She had however lied to her husband that their baby was sick.

But upon further interrogation, the husband alarmed by their child’s screams noticed that he was bleeding and his private parts had been severed.

“How could she do this to our baby? I asked her why she wanted to kill him but she refused to speak,” Mwamburi said.

The baby is in stable condition at the Kijabe Mission Hospital.

“We have our files ready and she will be presented in court Thursday and accused of causing grievous harm to a child.” Limuru Sub county Police Commander said.

The suspect is being detained at the Tigoni Police Station.
