NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 26- The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) on Saturday launched investigations over a suspected incident of police assault involving a motorist and a journalist in Nakuru, following a viral video.
In a statement, the authority chairperson Anne Makori said those found culpable, the Authority “will make appropriate recommendations against the police officers to the Director of Public Prosecutions, the National Police Service, the National Police Service Commission or any other state agency.”
In the video, a police officer is seen engaging a motorist for allegedly ramming on his car.
A push and pull ensued and shortly after, two other officers joined in and started beating the motorist whom the accused for “eating an officer.”
The person who shot the video clip, a Nakuru based journalist, was also assaulted according to reports.
“IPOA remains committed to being independent, impartial and fair,” Makori said.
The authority is also probing another assault case involving Angela Wambui, a Capital FM Kenya based journalist.
The former Miss Kenya-USA was assaulted by a top senior officer in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area.
The police Internal Affairs Unit is also probing the case which was also reported to the United States Embassy.
Wambui is a Kenyan-American citizen.
