NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 28- Police are investigating an incident in which a 38-year-old Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Sergeant was on Christmas Day killed by a mob in Utawala, Nairobi, after a row.

He was stoned by a mob after he had argued with a couple while walking home from a bar.

Police said preliminary findings had shown the soldier and his brother were on their way home from a local hotel where they had been drinking and making merry when they ran into a couple.

The deceased apparently greeted the lady, an action said to have angered her better half.

According to police, an argument ensued culminating to a stone-throwing match pitting the couple on one side and the Sergeant leading the charge on the other.

The couple, however, upon being overpowered by the sergeant and his brother, raised alarm screaming that they had been attacked by robbers.

As a result, a mob of six men came to the couple’s aid and clobbered the Sergeant to death while his brother escaped by a whisker.

Police said they are holding six suspects over the incident and are expected in court Monday morning.

The body was moved to the mortuary.

Incidents of mob injustice are on the rise amid calls to address the menace.

Police discourage it saying it’s criminal.

Nairobi police boss Rashid Yakub said those arrested will face serious charges including murder.

“If you are found being involved in mob lynching you will face serious charges including murder,” said the police boss.
