NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 30- A police officer was arrested after he shot dead his friend following an argument in a macabre incident in Westlands, Nairobi.

The motive of the brutal murder is yet to be known.

The Constable of police based at Gigiri’s Nyari Police Patrol Base is in custody following the death of his civilian companion on Tuesday night, police said.

He used his AK47 rifle to pump ten bullets to the deceased who was in his car parked at the station.

With the rifle, the officer had been deployed as a station guard moments before he was joined by his civilian friend, and who frequents at the patrol base located in Nairobi’s Westlands area.

And after an argument, gun shots were heard hours later. When other officers rushed to the scene, they found the lifeless body of the victim at the driver’s seat of his Toyota Probox.

Witnesses said the officer, who had been socially chewing miraa with the deceased the whole time was disarmed and arrested, having sprayed 10 rounds of ammunition in the blast.

Nairobi police boss Rashid Yakub said detectives have launched investigations to establish the motive behind the killing.

The body was taken to the mortuary.

Cases of alleged police killings have been on the increase in recent months.

The officers’ mental status has been blamed for the trend amid calls for regular counseling for all police officers.
