NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 2- A police officer on Saturday killed a colleague at Kamukunji police station, after a disagreement over undisclosed issues.
The officer, a woman, was declared dead on arrival at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) following the 9.30pm incident.
The deceased was identified as Police constable Maurine Achieng.
The killer officer who fled after committing the act was later killed by his colleague later in the night, as he was sneaking back to the station.
But while reliable sources confirmed he was killed, an incident report indicated that he shot himself using his G3 rifle apparently after “sensing danger.”
In the report, police claimed the officer had first been shot on his left arm.
This is not an isolated case within the National Police Service.
While there are many factors, mental issues have been blamed for a menace that has lasted for years.
A research conducted during the tenure of former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to unravel the mystery has never been made public and its implementation remains unknown.
But it identified psychological issues, poor working conditions and senior officers mistreating their juniors as some of the contributing factors.
