NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 8- Outgoing United States President Donald Trump is set to break a long held tradition, by failing to attend Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20.
It will be a defiant exit from the White House after a four-year tenure characterised by drama and a drastic review of the American diplomatic relations with the world.
But it’s not the threat of China or other global powers that makes Trump leave the most powerful seat in anger but the elections he lost from a man he long dismissed as “sleepy Joe.”
In his last kicks as President, Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol and the end, four lives were claimed.
It’s an incident that has injured US image globally after decades of bragging as a beacon of democracy.
While he has called for reconciliation, Trump has remained adamant his victory was stolen and has called for reforms in the electoral laws, in a bid to ‘enhance’ accountability.
His baseless allegations were dismissed by various courts and a wild rant on social media earned him a ban on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th,” he said in a viral Tweet.
He however thrown a caution that, “The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has since told Democrats she has received assurances there are safeguards in place in case Mr Trump wants to launch a nuclear weapon, according to CNN.
