BARINGO, Kenya, Jan 20 – Six bodies of unidentified people were Wednesday morning found by residents in Mairo area, Arabal in Baringo county, where a security operation is ongoing.
The bodies were later retrieved by police with preliminary reports indicating they all had gunshot wounds.
Police told Shahidi News that the identities of the deceased are yet to be established.
A security operation is underway in the area, extending further to Kapedo in Turkana county where tension has been high following the killing of several people as well as the brutal murder of General Service Unit Deputy Director of Operations Emadau Temako on Sunday.
He was murdered in an ambush attack between Kapedo and Chemolingot.
Property of unknown value was destroyed while several civilians and 2 police officers are in hospital recuperating, following the skirmishes suspected to be banditry attacks between two warring communities.
The bodies of the six people were taken to the Baringo Referral Hospital mortuary in Kabarnet.
Despite police not revealing what might have led to their deaths, sources told Shahidi News that some are “suspected bandits” in the area that were killed during the night security operation on Tuesday.
A security operation has been ongoing in the region for the last three days following the deployment of officers by the Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai.
Tuesday Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i said, “the retrogressive culture in the area is protecting negative and criminal armament that disguises itself as cattle rustling.” Further accusing leaders of funding chaos in the guise of banditry attacks.
An additional contingent of GSU and border patrol officers have been deployed along the common border of Baringo and Turkana.
