NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 5- The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has praised the sentencing of a US missionary for sexually assaulting young girls at a Bomet orphanage he used to run with his wife.
Gregory Dow, 61, admitted during a federal court hearing in the state of Pennsylvania to having committed the crimes between 2013 and 2017.
The DCI said the case serves as an example to all perpetrators of crime that “you can run today, but you can never hide from the long arm of the law because DCI, will be after you.”
In an announcement made by acting United States Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams, Dow was also ordered to pay over Sh1.7 Million in restitution for sexually abusing four minors in an orphanage which he operated with his wife in Boito, Bomet County.
Investigations conducted by DCI’s Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit and the FBI revealed that Dow, had sexually abused at least four minors between October 2013 and September 2017, before his dark secrets were unmasked.
He then fled Kenya to Lancaster County in the U.S.
Kenyan police with the help of the U.S Embassy, the FBI and other Multi agency teams were hot on his trail.
Ironically, Dow had established the Children’s Home under the guise of Christianity, with financial support from Churches and Faith-based organizations from the U.S.
According to the courts, charges against Dow stated that when he began abusing the girls, two of them were 11 years of age, one was 12, and one was 13.
“They called him ‘dad’. But instead of being a father figure for them, he preyed on their youth and vulnerability.”
“He used force and coercion to perpetrate the most heinous of crimes, preying on vulnerable children for his own sexual gratification,” the prosecutors said a court filing.
Kenyan police had attempted to arrest Dow in 2017, but he fled the country and managed to return to the US.
