NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 25- Caroline Wanjiku Maina, a city business woman who was found brutally murdered after a week of going missing was killed over a deal gone sour, Shahidi News has established.

The woman, detectives citing suspects recorded statements, was killed for allegedly “failing to honour her promise” in a Sh20 million deal with a County Government in the Eastern region.

The amount was to be paid for a tender to face lift the pedestrian walks within the county headquarters, using cabro paving blocks.

“The suspects wanted more money,” a detective handling the case said.

Detectives drawn from Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters have since arrested four suspects, who kidnapped the 38-year-old before killing her.

How was she lured to her death trap?

On February 12, Wanjiku met one of the suspects in Ngara, but before then, she had withdrawn Sh350,000.

Oblivious of the motive, she proceeded to meet the suspect, hoping to secure yet another deal- this time to boost her Stima Sacco shares.

She was driving her car, a Toyota Axio, which was found dumped in Kawangware area on February 13.

Wanjiku had confided on her friend about the February 12 meeting.

“Once at Ngara, Wanjiku was forced into a waiting black KCN 300D Toyota Crown in which Edwin (the prime suspect) was waiting, before being handcuffed and sandwiched,” the DCI said.

The suspects took her to a hideout in Kajiado, where they tortured her to death.

    But why?

“They had hoped she will come with more money. They wanted a bigger share of the money she was paid,” police said.

According to sources, the suspects had been paid Sh4 million for services rendered, but wanted a larger share.

“Wanjiku did not have more money. What is not clear is whether she has other bank accounts,” another detective said.

    -Cause of Death-

An autopsy carried on her body Wednesday revealed that Wanjiku died as a result of “blunt force trauma to the head.”

The autopsy was carried out by Government Pathologist Dr Charles Muturi.

She also had other injuries, some pointing into a possible torture.

Her body was recovered at the Kajiado Hospital Mortuary.

The vehicle that was used to dump her body in Kajiado has since been confiscated by the police.

The four suspects will be arraigned on Friday.
