KIAMBU, Kenya, Mar 7 – Six sacks of bhang were Saturday afternoon recovered by police at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) grounds in Kikuyu, Kiambu county.

According to Kikuyu Deputy Police Commander John Karani Etiang’, the sacks were first spotted by Kerwa area chief during his routine visit of the village and upon inspection of the cargo immediately notified officers at the Kikuyu police station.

“At about noon we received a report from the area chief that 6 suspicious sacks were found at the KALRO grounds, he did not initially know what it was, but he suspected it was bhang. Our officers arrived at the scene and established that indeed it was bhang,” the Deputy Police commander said.

According to police, the six sacks had approximately 50 kilograms of bhang bringing the total to 300 kilograms.

The bhang is said to have a street value of about Sh600,000.

“We did not apprehend anyone though investigations are underway in order to establish who might have stored it there. We however believe that the bhang was ready to be transported and had only been placed there for convenience since nobody lives in that area,” he said.

Police say that drug abuse has become a menace in the area.

Members of the public have now been encouraged to provide any information that may lead to the arrest of suspected drug dealers.
