NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 17- Detectives now say the murder suspect whose car got stuck in the mud while enroute to dump his girlfriend’s body has admitted to committing the heinous act.
The car got stuck along Bob Harris road in Juja, forcing the suspect to flee, leaving both the car and the body of his girlfriend.
Police have identified the suspect as Evans Karani while his girlfriend was described as a 25 year-old hotelier, who lived in Kahawa Wendani area.
She was identified as Catherine Nyokabi.
“The efforts by the suspect to discard the body and possibly cover up his actions were thwarted by mother nature,” Juja Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) Richard Mwaura told Shahidi News.
Police say Nyokabi was brutally murdered on Wednesday, April 14 in Witeithie area in Juja, Kiambu County.
Police were notified of a ‘suspicious’ car by members of the public- only for them to discover a body inside.
They verified the car’s ownership through the National Transport and Safety Authority’s registrar of motor vehicles.
Detectives later used his phone number to track him, the outcome of which led police to his rental house in Githurai Kimbo area on Friday.
They arrested him and booked him at Juja police station.
According to police, Nyokabi’s body had been burnt using a corrosive chemical.
“It appeared she was tortured before she was killed,” a detective privy to the initial findings of the ongoing investigations told Shahidi News.
Karani is said to have admitted to killing the lady, following a bitter dispute, that lasted for two weeks.

The suspect is set to be arraigned on Monday, with detectives saying they will seek for more time, so that they can conclude investigations.
Detectives want to establish whether Karani committed the act alone, and if not, establish his accomplices.
The 38 year-old is said to be married.
