NAIROBI,Kenya, Apr 28 – The two were arrested during a Wednesday dawn raid at their rental house within Makaazi apartments.
Detectives said they found fake US dollars worth Sh6.8Million.
Also recovered include, ” 490,000 fake Euros, and Sh6.4 million was recovered stashed in metal boxes.”
“Also recovered were jerrycans with an unknown liquid, DeLaRue branded badges and a seal, all suspected to be used in printing of the fake currencies. Assorted documents, customs reflector jackets, United Nations and National Treasury stickers were also confiscated.”
The suspects are still in police custody.
Detectives have since combed the apartment for more clues, in what they say appears to be a well coordinated, fake currency syndicate.
“The recovery of the fake currency, followed a report filed by a concerned member of the public, through the DCI toll free line 0800722203. Should you have any information that may assist us in the fight against crime, share with the DCI” said DCI boss in a Tweet.
Kilimani is one of hotspots for fake money and gold, with similar recoveries done in the past.
For instance, in April 2019, detectives arrested four Rwandese nationals and two Kenyans after they were found with 50 kilograms of fake gold in Kilimani.
A racket involved in counterfeit money and fake gold is believed to be based in Kilimani, an uptown neighbourhood of Nairobi City.
