NAIROBI,Kenya, May, 17 – The Director of Public Prosecutions has approved a murder charge against Peter Mwangi Njenga, who is accused of killing former National Land Commission (NLC) Deputy Communications Director Jennifer Wambua.
Njenga alias Sankale is accused of murdering the veteran journalist between March 12 and 13 at veterinary farm-Ebulbul in Kajiado county, jointly with others.
The accused will be charged with murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code Cap 63), laws of Kenya.
Meanwhile, a Machakos Law Court has ordered Sankale to undergo a mental assessment test, before taking plea.
“Peter Mwangi Njenga alias Sankale is to undergo the assessment before he can be allowed to take plea on 26th May, 2021,” ruled Judge David Kenei.
The courts further directed the government to provide the suspect with a pro-bono advocate.
Sankale will remain in custody at Kitengela police station.
Three other suspects are also in police custody.
Wambua was reported missing from Ardhi house on March 12 only for her body to be found dumped in Ngong forest on March 15.

Detectives probing the matter prior to his arrest revealed that the suspect, Sankale, was placed at the scene of crime first forensically through criminal intelligence.
Witnesses also positively identified Njenga with Wambua on March 12, before she disappeared.
Sankale has a previous criminal record according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
