NAIROBI, Kenya, May 23- It has emerged Somali-US businessman Mohamud Bashir Mohamed was killed a few days after he went missing.
Shahidi News has established that police recovered his body on May 15, three days after he was declared missing, and a report filed at Muthangari police station.
His body was booked as unknown person at a public morgue in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.
According to witnesses and police, the deceased was found naked and had severe head injuries.
“Seemingly, he was tortured before he was killed,” Kirinyaga Police boss Leah Githii told Shahidi News.
The body had been dumped at river Nyamindi in Marera village within Mwea constituency.
It was only until Saturday that the businessman’s family was notified of the unidentified body at the morgue, which they positively identified as that of their kin.
Who wanted Bashir dead?
His Missing and subsequent death is surrounded by mystery that police are yet to unravel.
Kenya Police Service boss Edward Mbugua said the incident is being investigated.

The 36 year-old went missing on May 13, only for his car to be found burnt in Kibiko area in Ngong, Kajiado County.
What do we know about his death?
Mohamed was last seen at an entertainment lounge in Lavington area, Nairobi.
Shortly before 7pm, CCTV footage retrieved from the facility shows him leaving the facility while driving his car.
This was the last time he was seen alive.
What happened later?
On May 14, a missing person report was filed at Muthangari police station.
Later, his vehicle was found burnt in Kibiko, Ngong area of Kajiado County.
When officers from the station went to the scene, they found the shell but went back to the station.
When Bashir’s family returned to the scene alongside the officers in a few hours, the remains of the burnt car had been removed.
“Even as Bashir rests, the family shall not rest until justice has been served and those responsible for his death brought to book,” his family said in a statement.
He was a construction engineer working in the country.
He is said to be one of the contractors on a government project in Kisumu last year.
His friends told Shahidi News that his company worked in civil engineering, real estate and architecture.
He was a resident of Ohio State, USA.
His death comes at a time when the abduction and brutal killing of four friends is yet to be resolved.
The friends were abducted from Kitengela and their bodies were found separately in various parts of Central Kenya.
Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has since directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Homicide Unit to probe the incident.
