MACHAKOS,Kenya, May 30 – A machete wielding gang Saturday night stormed a local bar in Mukalwa shopping center in Matungulu, Machakos County killing one person and seriously injuring another.
The gang, raided the bar while brandishing machetes, batons and slashers.
“They wanted to kill us. That was their goal,” a reveler told Shahidi News.
According to one of the survivors who hours earlier was battling for his life, the gang and some of its members who are known in the community had accused them of reporting them to the police that they engaged in selling of bhang and illicit brew.
“They said they came to revenge,” a victim, Joshua kioko said.
Kioko was seriously injured during the attack as the assailants cut him several times on his face, arm and legs with a machete.
His friend, Robert Mbiti, was not so lucky. Despite attempts by police and locals to save his life, he died while on his way to the Kangundo Level 4 Hospital.
“It was around 11pm when I was called and told boys came carrying pangas and weapons ready to do something dangerous, I called police and when we arrived there we found two people seriously injured. One unfortunately died moments later,” Sengani assistant senior chief, Catherine Mwikali said.
An operation was immediately launched in the area with 8 suspects at around 4am being arrested.
“They were in Tala town in one house near township primary school. Their leader was also with them. Others are also being pursued because we understand its a group of 30,“ he said.
The deceased family is now seeking justice for their kin further urging police to increase patrols in the area citing, “increased criminal activities that have threatened their well being and safety.”
The suspects will be presented in court on Monday.
