KAJIADO,Kenya, June 4 – Nativity Mutindi, the prime suspect in the murder of 8 year-old Shantel Nzembi will now remain in police custody for seven more days.

Mutindi was arraigned before Kajiado Law Court Resident Magistrate Edwin Mulochi.

The prosecution told the court that preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect was holding the deceased hostage at her home for at least 40 hours since she was reported missing.

During a raid at her home this past Friday, detectives recovered several head gears suspected to have been worn by the deceased alongside the airtel sim card allegedly used by the kidnappers to solicit for ransom totaling Sh300,000.

Detectives also recovered a machete including bedsheets suspected to have been used to wrap the deceased before her body was put inside a gunny bag and dumped.

The prosecution sought 7 more days to detain the suspect which was granted by magistrate Mulochi in order to conclude investigations.

Meanwhile, an Airtel agent who registered the mobile phone number used to solicit for ransom, Patrick Mureithi Wambaire, was also arraigned in court.

In their submissions in court, DCI detective based at Kitegela police station,George Momanyi said that they are pursuing another woman suspected to have been working with Mutindi.

Another suspect, Agnes Kasiva Nzioka was meanwhile released after it was established that Mutindi is the one that picked up the deceased from outside her home.

A total of four suspects are so far being held in police custody.

They will be arraigned at the same court on June,15, 2021.

An autopsy conducted this past Friday by chief government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor revealed that Shanel died as a result of suffocation.

Isinya DCIO Jeremiah Ndubai told Shahidi News that they have a water-tight case and hopefully justice will be served soon.

“We are concluding unraveling this murder and we have evidence that will help us come to the bottom of this matter,” said Ndubai.
