ISIOLO, Kenya, Jun 9 – Two people in Mwangaza area in Isiolo County are nursing gunshot injuries after suspected bandits raided their home on Tuesday evening.
According to witnesses, the bandits descended on the home of Peter Muriungi at around 11:30pm.
“I had gone out after I heard people in an argument outside the gate, that is when one of the people saw me and shot me on the leg,” said a tenant on the property, Samuel Mwenda.
Mwenda was shot again on his hand losing two fingers as he fled inside his house.
The bandits then took off from the area with 87 goats leaving behind cows that were also in the homestead.
Police told Shahidi News that another 15 year-old boy was shot on the stomach,a few meters from the homestead.
The two were shortly after rushed to Isiolo referral Hospital with the 15 year-old in intensive care after undergoing surgery.
“We have recovered 42 out of the 87 stolen goats in the suburbs of Aremiet area in Burat ward. We have crucial leads that will help nab the criminals,” said Isiolo County Commissioner Herman Shambi.
Sniffer dogs are being used by police to pursue the rest of the livestock.
Police have urged members of the public to provide information that will help track down the bandits.
According to locals, crime has been on the rise in the area particularly during past curfew hours.
An operation is currently ongoing.
