NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 12- The Government has listed 6 priority areas under the Rapid Results Initiative programme for citizenship and permanent residence with regaining of Kenya citizenship among services that will be expedited.

The initiative was recently launched by Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi who said thousands of Kenyans who lost their citizenship under the old Constitution will now regain their status.

They are however required to lodge applications at Nyayo House in Nairobi or at the Kenyan embassies.

By May 26, Matiangi said 25,000 applications were pending at the Immigration offices.

Other priority areas include citizenship for spouse, widows and widowers of Kenya Citizens, Citizenship of Lawful Residents (Investors), permanent residence for spouses and children of Kenya citizens and permanent residence of non-Kenyans.

It also includes permanent residence of lawful residents (investors), Directorate of Immigration Services Director Alexander Muteshi said.

“Kenyans in diaspora can present their applications to the nearest mission abroad for onward transmission to Nairobi,” he said in a statement.

The 60-day initiative will run until July 31, 2021.

During the period, Muteshi said the Directorate will focus on clearing the backlog and establishing a framework for speedy processing and issuance of the said documents.
