NAKURU, Kenya, Jun 16 – A grandson of the late president Daniel Moi has been directed by a Nakuru court to undergo a paternity test in a case where he is accused of allegedly neglecting his parental responsibility involving two children.

Collins Kibet is accused by his estranged partner Gladys Jeruto Tagi, in a case filed on April 2021 of abandoning his two children, a boy and a girl, both aged 11 and 9 years respectively and failing to provide for them basic needs.

The two are said to have separated in 2012 after leaving together for four years.

Appearing before senior resident Magistrate Benjamin Limo, Kibet was directed to present himself before the court this Friday alongside his alleged children and a paternity test conducted.

Paternity results are expected to be filed in court within 7 days where further directions will be issued.

Kibet is the son of the late Moi’s son, Jonathan Toroitich.

Tagi’s lawyer David Mong’eri told the court that despite attempts to have him cater for the needs of his children, Kibet has allegedly refused to do so.

In the suit filed in court, she is also seeking Sh1 million as child support.

Mong’eri further revealed that Kibet has not expressly denied taking responsibility and is in fact ready and willing to take care of the children if the paternity test proves he is the father.
