NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 20 – The 23 year old Hafsa Mohammed Lukman who was reported missing on Tuesday, has been rescued by police following days of an elaborate search.
Hafsa was found by detectives alone at an abandoned house in Matopeni area in Kayole, Nairobi county.
Police who had been canvassing the area have told Shahidi News that the kidnappers had been moving Hafsa to various houses within Kayole in an almost game of roulette, in an attempt to avoid detection and subsequent arrest.
The 23 year-old who was captured on CCTV footage at a shopping mall in Eastleigh neighbourhood in Kamukunji told police upon her rescue that her captors had abandoned her, never to return.
She was however not sure when they left the house in Matopeni as she was in shock and fearful for her life.
Hafsa further told detectives that her kidnappers forced her on several occasions to immerse herself in an empty water tank, fashioned by the gang to easily transport her without detection and also as a means to scare her.
During the time she was being rescued, Hafsa said that the gang fed her rice and juice.
It was also during this period, shortly after the family filed a missing persons report at the California police station that the gang demanded a Sh5 million ransom.
The gang constantly kept on sending videos and images of Hafsa to her family, while threatening to end her life if the money was not sent.
In one of the images and videos believed to be of Hafsa’s, the gang tied her up and had apparently beat her up, as witnessed by physical injuries on her face.
Hafsa has since been admitted to hospital where she is currently receiving treatment and is in stable condition.
