NAIROBI,Kenya, June 22 – An investigation has been launched to establish what caused the death of a prison warder at the Industrial Area Remand Prison in Nairobi county.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that staff at the remand prison heard and reported gunshots, initial suspecting that the facility was under attack.
The incident was reported around 2pm.
A prison warder assigned at one of the watch towers was found dead at his post, with investigators now probing the cause of death.
It remains uncertain what happened at the watch tower.
Officers at the Industrial Area Remand Prison who spoke to Shahidi News said that the officer had exhibited signs that he was ‘unhappy’ with the deployment to the watch though he did not raise an official complaint.
The warder sustained a single gunshot injury on his neck.
Investigations are ongoing.
