BARINGO, Kenya, June 22 – Police in Kabarnet have arrested a man who shot to death his brother and sister in-law with a poisonous arrow over a land dispute Monday evening.

The suspect, Alexender kipchumba is said to have confronted his brother Alphonce Kipchumba following a drinking spree after which he demanded that he is allowed to sell a parcel of land left behind by their parents.

Following the altercation, Alexander is said to have become enraged, attacking his brother upon which a fight ensued.

Shortly after, he is said to have armed himself with a bow and arrow laced with poison, targeting his other brother, identified as Maurice. He however hit his sister in-law, Melvin Rotich.

“He fought with his brother and kept saying he wanted his piece of land which he inherited from his parents and wanted to sell…..but his parents before they died said they can’t sell land and that they can only engage in farming,” said Baringo Sub-county police commander, Francis Gachoki.

Gachoki further told Shahidi News that Alexander was under the influence of alcohol and bhang which is said to have ravaged in Kaptereewa area.

“After he shot his sister in-law, one of his brother ran, the other also ran but unfortunately, he chased him down and shot him with three poisonous arrows,” he said.

Alexander shortly after fled into the woods leaving his brother lying in a  pool of his blood.

His sister in-law was shortly after rushed to the Baringo Referral Hospital. She however died while on the road.

Attempts to arrest the suspect on Monday night proved futile after he escaped a police dragnet. He was however arrested on Tuesday morning after hiding at a friend’s house in Kabarnet.

“We are shocked, we have never heard someone killing two people in a matter of minutes…this man was armed and he killed our loved ones. The law must punish such people. they should serve lifetime in jail,” said David Chesang, deceased’s relative.

Another relative called on the government to weed out criminals selling bhang in the area, which is said to have affected youth in the area.

“It is painful losing people, that is all I can say,” sad Dominic Kipyegon, deceased’s relative.

The suspect is being held at the Kabarnet police station and will be presented in court on Wednesday.

The bodies of the deceased are being preserved at the Baringo Referral Hospital mortuary.
