NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 23-Police have arrested 6 more suspects linked to a series of violent robberies along the Southern bypass.

The 6 are accused of being part of a gang that has been attacking and robbing motorists and pedestrians along the highway.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said they were linked to the crimes using cyber and forensic analysis, which helped detectives track them down to their hideouts in Kawangware area.

At least 112 assorted phones were recovered from the suspects, police said.

“Detectives employed cyber and forensic analysis, with the help of sleuths attached to the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau to nail the suspects. As a result, Police recovered 112 assorted mobile phones all suspected to have been stolen. One victim who had previously been attacked by the vicious gang along the highway managed to identify her phone,” DCI said.

“During the operation mounted by Langata based crime busters, they managed to arrest Messi Martha Mutioka, Tevin Njuguna, Edward Baraza Shikoba, Lawrence Gitahi Ndirangu, Kenneth Maina Chege, and David Lugali Asianja all aged between 21 and 32 years old.”

So far, detectives say 15 suspects have been arrested and arraigned over the crime incidents along the 29 kilometer highway.

Victims have been asked to report to Lang’ata Police Station, where hundreds of recovered items including phones have been placed for identification.

“Any victims who may have lost their valuables including mobile phones are requested to visit our offices at Langata Police Station, to identify them,” DCI Director George Kinoti said.
