NAIROBI,Kenya, July 3 – Friday evening, officers from Kasarani police station received a phone call from one of the patrons at a popular entertainment joint, along the busy Thika Super Highway at around 9.30pm regarding a shooting incident.

The initial report filed by police had indicated that two officers allegedly had an argument over a woman and that the matter quickly escalated with the officers drawing their weapons and started shooting each each. The woman is also said to have been shot during the incident.

The officers were identified as Festus Musyoka, a police constable attached at the Starehe DCI offices while the second one was identified as Lawrence Muturi, a police constable attached at the petty crime unit at Kasarani police station.

The earlier police report further indicated that the woman, identified as Felistas Nzisa had accompanied constable Musyoka.

According to the Kasarani sub county police commander Peter Mwanzo this is not what happened.

“We noticed that there was another person who was armed, he is the one that approached the officers and withdrew his firearm, firing three shots,” said Mwanzo.

The officers according to Mwanzo, were attending the birthday party of the Kasarani police station, officer commanding station (OCS) when the incident occurred.

They are said to have been among the last officers to have stayed behind after the party had ended and were just about to leave the premises.

Mwanzo further told Shahidi News that the woman did not come to the venue with the officers and they did not know each other.

“The statement released earlier was erroneous, it is what we thought had occurred at the time, it was not factual” he said.

CCTV footage seen by Shahidi News shows the unknown assailant approaching the officers and later having a few words with them before withdrawing his gun and firing as he ran towards the opposite direction.

Other patrons and working staff in the club can also been seen running to safety.

Constable Musyoka was shot on the left side of his neck, constable Muturi was reportedly shot on the hand while Nzisa was shot on the abdomen.

CCTV footage further shows the gunman fleeing the scene and he is said to have entered a vehicle that was waiting for him outside the club according to witnesses.

One of the injured officers told SCPC Mwanzo that neither him or the other officer fired their weapon.

Their firearms have since been admitted as evidence awaiting a ballistic examination.

One of the officers and the woman were rushed to Nehema Uhai Hospital for treatment, after which the officer was transferred to the Nairobi Hospital for further treatment.

The other officer checked himself into Radiant Hospital in Pangani where he was treated and discharged.

Nairobi police boss Augustine Nthumbi who also spoke to Shahidi News said they will take action on all those who were involved in the shooting incident.

Detectives have since launched a manhunt for the gunman.
