NAIROBI,Kenya, July 6 – A lobbying campaign had been ongoing behind the background as senior police officers scrambled for some of the country’s top security jobs following a wave of retirement by officers, leaving several departments in need of new bosses.
The Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti as a result has finally announced changes and new appointments that have affected at least 44 senior officers.
Some of the prominent senior officers to have been transferred or secured top jobs include John Gachomo who was the head of anti-terror police unit .
He has since been appointed as the DCI Head of Investigations Bureau.
John Otieno who headed the Mombasa Anti-Terror Police Unit will take over from Gachomo.
Gachomo takes over from John Kariuki who retired from the police service after 33 years.
Bernard Gicheru has been confirmed to the position of DCI Director of Operations.
Gicheru takes over the powerful docket from Henry Ondieki who has also retired from the service.
Former Nairobi area head of DCI Bernard Nyakwakwa has been moved to Jomo Kenyatta Airport and appointed as the head of the DCI Kenya Airports Police Unit.
Paul Mugwanja who previously served as the airport DCI boss has been recalled to the DCI headquarters and reassigned as Director of Planning..
Paul Wachira who was the Kitale DCI boss takes over as the new Nairobi DCI chief .
Francis Wanjau, who served as the Laikipia DCI boss has been redeployed to Kisumu in a similar capacity.
Carrey Nyawinda who was the DCI Deputy Head of Investigations has been named the new head of Banking Fraud Unit.
Nyawinda replaced Abdallah Komesha who was moved to the regional counter terrorism center of excellence.
David Chebii, who was the head of anti-counterfeit unit based at Parklands has been reassigned to the DCI headquarters as the new head of the call centre also known as Fichua Complaints Unit.
Peter Kiboro was named the new DCIO for Gigiri in Nairobi.
Fatuma Hadi who was the head of Kilimani DCI unit has been recalled to Mazingira complex for redeployment.
Hadi is expected to go to Rwanda for a senior officers’ training course.
Stephen ole Tanki takes over as the new Kilimani DCI boss.
Lawrence Okoth has been moved to Kitui and named the CCIO. Johnston Kola (North Eastern), Stephen Chacha (Western region) and Johna Kirui (DCI headquarters) while Amos Teben was named the director of complaints.
Kasarani’s Jackson Owino has been redeployed to Garissa as the head of personnel.
Pius Gitari will be the boss at Special Service Unit (SSU), Eliud Lagat has been appointed director of reforms while Kisii County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Adan Guyo was moved to Nyandarua in same capacity and Kitui’s Samuel Kobina to DCI academy as the deputy director.
More changes have also been instituted in the Administration police unit and the Kenya police.
