NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 23 (DPPS)- A section of church leaders have cautioned police against selective application of law.
The leaders led by the General Overseer of the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya Bishop Dr David Macharia, said police risk plunging the country into chaos because of selective application of law.
He said Kenyans want peace and that no one should interfere with the current harmonious relations among all Kenyans.
“The laws that we have in this country must be applied equally among all Kenyans irrespective of political, ethnic or religious persuasions. Selective application of law can easily plunge the country into anarchy. We are all equal in this country,” said Bishop Macharia.
Speaking at the Buruburu Full Gospel Church during the consecration of Bishop Isaac Kariuki as the regional overseer, Nairobi region, the leaders called for equal treatment of all Kenyans in accordance with the Constitution.
The function was attended by Deputy President William Ruto.
Dr Macharia said Kenyans should not be coerced or intimidated on the nature of leaders to elect to various political seats come the next general election.
“Let the people of this nation decide on their destiny. No one should decide for the people of Kenya. We all need peace and no one should disrupt our peaceful coexistence,” said Bishop Macharia.
He said it was wrong for anyone to impose some issues on Kenyans in full disregard of the Constitution.
Dr Ruto asked MPs to enact laws that are just, fair and promote equality among all Kenyans.
He said it is the responsibility of leaders to ensure the laws passed serve all Kenyans equally without discriminating or undermining the rights of any person.
The Deputy President said Kenya is a God fearing nation and would continue to partner with Churches on matters of development.
“I ask church leaders not to worry by the situation of things in our country because God is fully in control,” said Dr Ruto.
And while addressing members of the public in Buruburu town, the Deputy President said he was not scared by plans by some leaders to gang up against him ahead of 2022, saying he has support of the hustler movement across the country.
“Let them unite and the hustler movement will face them. This time round, we have decided that the economic model will be from bottom-up aimed at transforming the lives of majority of Kenyans, who are hustlers in this case,” said Dr Ruto.
Present were MPs George Theuri (Embakasi West), Benjamin Gathiru (Embakasi Central), John Kiarie (Dagoretti South), Nixon Korir (Langata), Millicent Omanga (nominated), George Koimburi (Juja), Moses Mabonga (Bumula) and former MP Margaret Wanjiru.
Earlier, during a Muslim leaders meeting in his Karen office, Nairobi, the Deputy said Opposition leaders owe Kenyans an explanation for halting the Government’s Big Four development agenda to pursue their selfish political ambitions.
He said the Big Four agenda- manufacturing, housing, health and food security-were designed to create jobs, boost agriculture and implement affordable universal health care; projects that would have benefited millions of ordinary Kenyans.
Dr Ruto said the country has wasted four years pursuing constitutional amendments under the Building Bridges Initiative.
“We are waiting for the Opposition to tell us how changing the Constitution so that they can get power and undermine our courts are priorities as opposed to the Big Four agenda,” said Dr Ruto.
He asked Opposition leaders to stop distracting the president and allow him to serve Kenyans.
“The President was not elected to organize how five individuals will get power and share positions. He was elected to serve Kenyans,” he said.
Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar said the hustler nation is keen on changing the country’s economic model to ensure those who have been getting the short end of the stick get their fair share.
“The current economic model is controlled by a few individuals who even during a pandemic still make profit,” said Mr Omar.
Isiolo Women Rep Rehema Jaldesa urged the Muslim community to support the hustler nation saying its agenda represents the aspirations of Muslims.
“We will rally behind a leader whose agenda is inline with ours,” said Ms Jaldesa.
Former Majority Leader Aden Duale said those in the hustler nation formation believe in the empowerment of ordinary citizens.
“We want to uplift the oppressed as instructed in the Holy Books in the form of an economic model,” said Mr Duale.
