NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 26- Three traffic police officers who were caught on camera taking bribes from public service vehicles along Kangundo Road, Nairobi have been identified and summoned by the Internal Affairs Unit for formal disciplinary measures.
IAU director Mohamed Amin told Shahidi News that the three will be disciplined internally and later be informed on the way forward. They are expected before IAU Monday morning for formal charges internally.
This may include their transfer or even demotion. The officers based at Buruburu police station were on duty when a cameraman who had apparently monitored their activities captured them take what is thought to be bribes from a man who collected from various matatus.
Amin said the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai had ordered the move to probe and discipline them accordingly.
Cases of bribe taking among traffic personnel are not new. They are common and this has been attributed to among others poor pay and lack of discipline among those concerned.
