NAKURU,Kenya,July 29 – Traffic flow was interrupted along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway Thursday morning amidst rising cases of road accident around Mbaruk area of Nakuru county.
According to statistics, at least seven people have lost their lives after being hit by speeding motorists between Mbaruk and Laikipia Campus center.
Youth in the area decried the rising number of deaths citing hit and run incidents as the number one cause of accidents.
residents now say that they will erect makeshift bumps in the section of the highway if authorities fail to action in order to avert future deaths.
On Wednesday, a body bider rider was hit by a speeding vehicle dying on the spot in the latest incident of hit and run.
“We were enroute to a funeral to bury one of our own when yet another colleague was killed.” Said Stephen Mwangi , a bodaboda rider.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has been put on the spot for failing on their mandate as the area residents say is becoming a blackspot.
Reckless truck drivers have also been accused of engaging in free gear causing accidents along the route.
