NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 2- Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa was on Monday morning arrested and was set to be charged with assault related charges at a Bungoma law court.
The legislator is in trouble for allegedly assaulting a local musician, as a result “causing bodily grievous harm.”
The incident happened on July 30- when the legislator in the company of his supporters went to launch a new tuition block at Lurare Baptsit Primary School in Kimilili.
But Barasa had not cleared some Sh3.4 million unpaid bill to the contractor despite numerous attempts to have him clear it.
He was seen on camera becoming aggressive against the contractor-who insisted on first being paid his money before the projected was launched. The classrooms had been closed.
The project was commissioned by the National Government Constituency Development Fund.
The victim, Stephen Masinde, alias Steve Kay, told Shahidi News that alongside his partner Ronald Graham Wafula, they had constructed the five classrooms at a cost of Sh3.4 million.
Masinde said the MP had been avoiding them after being confronted with the bill.
