NAKURU,Kenya,Aug 10 – JC village in Bahati constituency in Nakuru county is where five people lost their lives after consuming illicit brew, county officials have confirmed.
According to the county CEC Gichuki Kariuki, attempts to save their lives proved futile as they were undergoing treatment at the Bahati Sub-County Hospital.
Fiver others however according to the hospital’s superintendent are in stable condition and are being constantly monitored.
They had been brought to hospital on Monday after police raided their dens.
Two out of the five died Tuesday morning.
“Those that passed on including the brewer, died Tuesday morning. We had initially found them unconscious on the fateful day before authorities rushed them to hospital” said Kariuki.
Toxicology reports indicated the victims who had Monday complained of stomach complications were, “being treated for alcohol intoxication and organophosphate poisoning,”
A security team across the county has since been dispatched to identify illicit brew dens in order to bring the vice to an end.
Members of the public have meanwhile been advised to work closely with security agencies and provide timely information in order to avert further deaths.
