Woman Admits To Charges Of Torturing Her Daughter

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 13- A woman has admitted torturing her child through beating and denying her food but the reasons remain unknown.

She made the confession during an appearance in court before Kibera senior principal magistrate Phillip Mutua.

Midred Akinyi has been subjecting her 8-year-old daughter to cruel punishment that included inflicting injuries on her head and hands.

Efforts by local administrator in Dagorreti to stop her evil ways were not successful.

This was after the child fled her mother’s house and went to stay with a neighbour.

But on questioning by the administrator, she sought for a second chance and promised to be a good mother. She never did.

Her daughter was recently rescued by the police while tied on both hands to a chair- as the woman slept. It is not yet clear whether Akinyi is mentally stable.

She admitted to all charges in court.

 The principal magistrate ordered for both the mother and daughter’s social inquiry to be tabled before the court on August 25.
